Lucknow: Minister of Jal Shakti Mahendra Singh on Sunday said the Yogi government operated 18 pending irrigation projects in the past 4.5 years who now benefit more than 50 lakh farmers.
This was done to double the income of farmers – promises made by BJP before 2017, the minister added.
“Nearly 18 projects, including the National Canal Sanchyu project, Arjun Sahayak Canal Project, and the Bansagar Project, which was delayed for years had been completed and made operations in the past four and a half years our government would facilitate additional irrigation.
20 Lakh hectares of land, profitable More than 50 countries farmers, “Singh said.
The Canal Sarku project was considered in 1971-72, while work began in 1978.
Initially when the project was launched in 1978 to expand irrigation capacity in Bahraich and Gonda districts, it was called Ghaghra Canal.
However, in 1982-83, the scope of the project was expanded with the inclusion of nine districts in the Trans-Ghaghra-Rapti-Rohini region of Purvanchal, and it was renamed the Sarkyu project.
The minister said the previous government was ignored by the major agricultural projects that would solve many farmers’ problems for decades ago.
The government does not even bother allocating sufficient funds for irrigation projects so that they can be resolved on time.
The BJP government after assuming offices in 2017, provides sufficient funds and accelerates work on the project.
“As much as Rs 5,189 Crore was spent on this project from 1978 to 2017, while from 2017 until now, the total RS 4,613 Crore has been spent by the government.
More than 14 hectares of land can be irrigated by this project, which will benefit around 30 farmers, “He said.
