18 Trees Broken in Dwarka for Rail Project: Department of Forest

New Delhi: Examination of the Department of Forest has found that 18 trees have been damaged in Dwarka for the construction of the rebuilding of the Bijuan Rail Terminal.
This site is located near the Dwarka Sector 21 Metro Station.
Forest officers said the notification would be served by violators to cut down trees without permission to violate Delhi’s prevention of the Tree Law, 1994.
A forest official told Tii, “We received a complaint that the tree was cut down without permission and checking the site.
The initial report found 18 trees Cut, but detailed examinations and studies are needed to check whether more trees are cut down.
“Senior senior forest officials from the West Division said the notification would be served, begged Delhi’s prevention of the Tree Law, 1994.
The problem was revealed after several locals and an NGO complained Ministry of Forestry.
Naveen Solanki, a 20-year-old resident, filed a complaint to the authorities and claimed that more than 100 trees were cut without permission in the past few days.
He accused the contractor who worked on the site could not produce documents that show permission from the Ministry of Forestry.
Madhukar Varshney, founder of the NGO Rise Foundation, said, “If we compare the site with Google Image from March 2019, it can be seen that the vegetation on the site is reduced.
This area is also home to Nilgai and some birds.” Varshey added that the situation of the city air quality has been deteriorating in recent years and instead of cutting down trees, they must be transplanted according to government policy.
An official of the Railway Development Authority (RLDA), who has carried out the project, said only bushes on the track were cut.
“There are no broken trees and some bushes are removed from the site.
The removed bushes have a thickness of less than 1.5mm, which are not counted as trees,” the official said.
He added, “Google Image shows that there are no trees on the site in 2016 and some of them appear in recent years.” This project was previously allocated for the corporation of the development of the Indian train station (IRSDC).
However, after being closed last year, this project was given to RLDA in December last year.
