Gurgaon: A 18-year-old man allegedly drowned in a canal near Dhankot Village on Monday.
The young man, identified as Rohit, had gone to the canal with his friends to do ‘Ganesh Visarjan’.
Rohit, who came from Bihar and lived in Chauma Village, had gone to immersion idols with his friends around 8pm on Monday.
He slipped and fell into the canal and quickly swept away by the current, police said.
His friends tried to pull him out, but it didn’t work.
“About 7-8 young people, including Rahul, have gone for Ganesh Visarjan.
They tried to pull it out, but he was taken away by the water flow,” said a police officer.
The body was found on Tuesday morning by a team of the power of state disaster response and several divers.
Rohit has arrived in Gurgaon 20 days ago from the Motihari District of Bihar to prepare for his higher education.
The police said his parents had been told and the inspection process under the part 174 CRPC had begun.
“Post-Mortem will be done and the body will be handed over to the family,” the officer said.
