Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) has built 1,848 flats in Kavundampalayam and units tend to be given to government staff members from October rental.
Until now, officials have received 1,100 strange applications from government employees for allotment.
TNHB has destroyed thousands of flats in Thomas Park, district forest officer compounds in Race and Kavundampalayam courses in 2012.
The following State Government has given RS 512 Crore to TNHB to build 1,848 flat apartment types in Kavundamapalayam, where construction work starts on the 2nd March 2016.
TNHB has built four types of flats – A, B, C and D.
There are 56 types of types equipped with three bedrooms and an area of 1,192.53sqft, 294 flats type B and 920sqft area, 1,148 type C flats with a single bedroom and 761.27sqft 350 D-type flats with single bedrooms and 558.23sqft areas.
Each apartment has 14 floors with elevator facilities and two separate water connections – one for drinking water and other for other domestic purposes.
A source said the construction work was completed and the flat would be handed over to officials for allotment at the end of September.
Beneficiaries must pay a minimum monthly rent RS 6,800 for Flat type A, Rs 6,550 for Flat type B, Rs 3,400 for Flat type-C and RS 1,500 for Flat type D to TNHB.
S CARIKALAN, Executive Engineer and Administrative Officers, TNHB, Coimbatore, said they would collect Rs 2 for per sqft as a maintenance cost of residents.
“We will take advantage of the number of monthly flats.
The building is strong.
We have received 1,124 applications from regular government employees, assisted school members and court staff members, TNHB, TNSTC, City Corporation, Tangedco, Police Department of Police Tamil Nadu.
We plan to Sharing flat from October, “he said.
