New York: Nineteen people, including 9 children, have been killed in apartment apartments in New York City, in what the city firefighting commissioners call one of the worst blazes in recent memories.
Stefan Ringel, a senior advisor for Mayor Eric Adams, confirmed the death toll at The Associated Press, while a city official who was not authorized to speak publicly confirmed the number of dead children.
More than five dozen people were injured and 13 people were still in critical condition in the hospital, Ringel said.
The majority of victims suffered from severe smoke inhalation, Commissioner Fdny Daniel Nigro said at the press conference early that afternoon.
According to Fdny, around 200 firefighters responded to the scene at Bronx’s Twin Park Apartments, a building from 19 floors in East 181st Street.
Fire extinguisher “ found the victim on each floor and took it in the arrest of heart and breathing, “said Nigro.
“ It’s unprecedented in our city.
We hope there are many deaths.
“Get out of the club.
According to Nigro, the week’s fire comes from a duplex apartment covering the second and third floor.
The firefighters found open apartment doors, he said, who seemed to allow fire to speed up and spread smoke quickly.
The fire was not trusted by suspicious origin but the cause Being investigated.
The week’s fire came just a few days after the fire house in Philadelphia left 12 people – including eight children – dead.
