Madurai: In the middle of a fast speed with Covid-19 cases increased and vaccination played a major role in reducing mortality and severity, almost 19% of the adult population in the district had not taken a dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
The Ministry of Health data places the first dose coverage in Madurai Regency at 81% on Wednesday, below the average of 88%.
The second dose coverage is 50%, also less than the average of 64%.
“The availability of vaccines has been confirmed in all designated vaccination sites.
Those who are due for the second dose and the dose of their booster is also followed up through calls and SMS messages also sent,” said a health official.
In terms of vaccination coverage in children aged 15-18 years, more than 70% have taken the first dose because vaccination for groups began in January 3.
Of the 1,41,300 children targeted in the age group, 99,620 had it far took their jab .
From January 10, the administration of the dose of preventive measures begins for health workers, frontline workers and senior citizens over 60 years.
On Wednesday, a total of 1,838 beneficiaries had taken prevention doses in the district.
Health officials hope the numbers to be taken in the coming days.
“Health workers and frontline workers from the government sector have begun to advance to take the dose of preventive measures.
For those who are over 60 years with co-morbid conditions, it is very important to take prevention doses because they are most vulnerable,” said a corporate health official.
