Haveri: The steep level of fatality for Covid-19 in the Haveri district – by 2.7%, it is the highest in northern Karnataka – more than just disturbing statistics.
Of the 590 people who had given up on infection in all districts, many left children poorer by one parent – in Haveri, there were 191 children like those who lost their pandemic mothers.
In many cases such, the loss of parents has, in addition to leaving children cannot be entertained, adding to the financial responsibility of living parents.
As a result, living parents find themselves in a position that cannot be carried out because they have to carry the burden to find a family, while ensuring that children continue their studies.
Privy’s source for this grieving family problem says that the loss of one parent has resulted in many children who are forced into care for relatives and friends.
“In the case of a family where father is the only breadwinner and mother of a housewife, children can always depend on the latter for love and care.
The loss of one parent means that the others not only have to make a living for families , but also tend to children, “said a source.
Savitri Badiger from Narayanpur village in Shiggavi Taluk, who lost her husband Mahesh, a carpenter to Covid, has now been abandoned with a heavy responsibility to defend the family consisting of his father, mother-in-law and two children, both of which are under six years old.
“Now, besides taking care, I have to get out and work to put food on the table,” said Savitri.
Basavaraj Idaramani, a farmer, in a hurry when his wife, Shobha surrendered to Covid, went to keep their two blind children.
“Shobha took care of children when I worked in the fields.
But now, it became increasingly difficult for me to work on agriculture because I had to dedicate my time to children,” he said.
Officers at the Haveri Child Protection Center Malikarjun Matad admitted 191 children – 90 boys and 101 women – after losing at least one parent to Covid-19.
Describing the steps taken by the government to secure their welfare, Matad said, “The state government will contribute a number of Rs 1,000 for 36 months for children who lose one parent, besides offering all possible support for their education and health care.
Generous also volunteered to help alleviate the fate of these children and their families.
