New Delhi: A total of 1989 lives were reported by the state and the United States due to hydrometeorological disasters, including landslides, flash floods, and Cloudburst for 2020-2021, the latest data reading at Lok Sabha.
In a written reply to the question, MOS (house) Nityanand Rai told Lok Sabha that 2,400 lives were lost in 2018-19, while 2,422 deaths were reported during the period of 2019-2020.
According to temporary data obtained for the current year, most of the deaths were reported from West Bengal, followed by Gujarat and Maharashtra, who reported 215 deaths.
The lowest number of deaths is reported from the Union Puducherry (1) region, Goa (2) and Tripura (5).
While Himachal Pradesh recorded a total of 429 deaths due to natural disasters in 2018-2019, the number was significantly lower in 2019-2020, with 86 deaths reported from the region.
Kerala’s condition also showed a significant decline in death from 455 to 125 deaths during the period.
MOS Home also told the house that as was informed by the Indian Geological Survey (GSI), during the Monsun period from April to October; In Medan, West Ghat from April to December, including the east-season phase, the landslide incident occurred in almost all landslide-prone areas, in most cases, this was triggered by extreme rainfall events or Cloudburst.
“However, it cannot be convincingly stated from the GSI inventory record that this type of fatal event increases in recent years,” he said.
Rai said that for 2021-22, the first installment of the SDRF central stock was RS 8,873.60 Crore was released first to all countries on April 29, 2021.
Furthermore, RS 279 Crore has been allocated for the J & K disaster response fund, which includes , Rs 108.81 Crore has been released until August 2021 to UT from Jammu and Kashmir.
