New Delhi: Despite the rainy season arrives later this year, Safdarjung, the base station of Delhi for the weather, rainfall 1.000mm passing mark for the season on Friday.
Observations Safdarjung accept 5.4mm rainfall in a period of 24 hours until 8:30 am on Friday, with 10.2mm of rainfall recorded between 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm, taking the figure to 1.015.5mm.
It passed the sign 1.000mm for the first time since 2010, when Delhi received the 1.031.5mm between June and September.
With rain forecast for the weekend, Delhi can easily beat the record was even before the month ends, officials said.
India Meteorological Department has issued a warning ‘orange’ for Saturday, predicting moderate to severe showers which can lead to waterlogging across the city once again.
Mark ‘normal’ for rainfall between June 1 and September 10 is 586.4mm.
For the total of the rainy season from June to September, the normal mark is 648.9mm.
Delhi has been receiving an annual rainfall 1.215.9mm so far, compared with the annual normal 779mm from January to December.
“Delhi receives most of the rainfall (500 mm) in July, August deficit but still recorded more than 200mm and two first days of September alone recorded a rainfall of 200mm,” said an official.
On Friday, Delhi received a rainfall of ‘trail’ between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm at Safdarjung.
Between 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm, 10.2mm of rainfall was recorded.
The IMD said the record 2010 can be traversed on Saturday alone, with excellent opportunities for moderate to severe showers occur throughout the capital.
“We can expect moderate to heavy rainfall on Saturday and moderate showers on Sunday.
Some records will be broken in September,” the official said.
For comparison, during the rainy season, the capital has received rainfall of 576.5mm in 2020, 404,3mm in 2019 and 762.6mm in 2018.
In 2013, he received 876mm of rainfall between June and September.
Safdarjung so far received six days of rainfall ‘heavy’ – when more than 64.5mm of rainfall recorded in a 24-hour duration.
Two days as it happened in the first two days of September, when Delhi recorded at 1 and 117.7mm 112.1mm in September.
Has so far received 248.9 mm rainfall this month – almost double that of the average mark 129,8mm September.
The air quality of Delhi, meanwhile, remains in the category of ‘satisfactory’ with the overall air quality index of 79, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
