Mumbai: The Maharashtra Government has so far received 2.2 lakh applications from family members who died Covid-19 patients for Payment of Ex-Gratia RS 50,000 each.
Like on Tuesday morning.
In fact, Covid’s death recorded in the country amounted to 1,42,151.
Claims received from certain districts are much higher than the total Covid deaths reported.
Officials said the difference was due to many claims submitted by the same family.
BMC has received 34,642 claims as against 16,546 deaths reported to Tuesday morning.
Likewise, Thane Corporation, which has recorded 2,132 deaths, has received 4,723 claims.
The state began channeling Ex-Gratia’s payments to Covid relatives who died since December 9 after the Supreme Court passed the delay.
In 1.5 months, the state government has approved 1.07 lakh applications and 24,000 others are in the final stage of permission and will be completed for the next two days.
Officials say the high number of applications is the result of several applications by the same person or application as a variety of relatives from the same family.
Nearly 51,000 such applications have been rejected, where 13,000 have applied for an appeal with the district committee.
Of the total application received, 1.99 lakh has been examined by doctors for the cause of death, the first verification rate.
“Some applications are filled with incorrectly, do not have required documents and rejected.
They can re-register with the correct document,” said an official.
He said the state had gave sanctions RS 953 Crore to include 1.9 lakh claims.
“The gap between deaths and applications reported will not be as high as many other countries.
Maharashtra is very transparent in reporting death,” he said.
