Coimbatore: As many as 2.45 lakh people have missed the second dose of Covid-19 vaccination in the city of Coimbatore.
City Corporation Health Wings have taken a list of people who are reluctant to vaccinate and distribute their contact numbers with employees so that they can reach them and make it vaccinated.
The Civic body has conducted a regular vaccination camp and mass vaccination camps are held once a week.
Even though the vaccine is available freely the response has fallen.
The gap between two doses for Covaxin is 28 days, while the gap is 84 days for covishield.
While around 95% of the qualified population have taken the first dose, only 55% of them have received the second dose so far.
Among those who qualified for the second dose, some got their turn in August but still showed reluctance.
“Many vaccine doses are available at this time, but responses from people have come down.
To this day (Wednesday) we have 60,000 plus doses and we can get up to 30,000 doses of rural health officials.
The mass vaccination camp held on Thursday only witnessed around 9,000 takers in the city, “said a health official from City Corporation.
A warm response from people for the second dose can be caused by fear of infection because the number of cases of Covid-19 reported in the city has dropped.
At present, 45-55 cases are reported in the average average while the test is carried out between 4000-5000 in a day, he said.
People who have fever after taking the first dose can hesitate to take the second dose because of fear of fever once again.
However, observations show that people do not have fever after the second dose if they have fever after getting the first dose, he said.
The official added that they received a response to the second dose when health staff made personal visits or call them by telephone insisting on getting the second dose.
