Gurgaon: Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) on Monday launched an art installation at IFFCO Chowk and Ait Chowk as part of a beauty driving in the city.
Gurgaon Mla Sudhir Singla and Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) Ward 30 Board Members Mahesh Dayma launched a statue of a man titled ‘Hanyanvi Tau’ wearing a traditional headgear and smoking ‘Hookah’ on ‘Charpoy’ at IFFCO Chowk and ‘I love Motif Gurugram Ait Chowk at Golf Course Road.
The statue has been made by the artist born in Jaipur Gopal Namjoshi, who runs an open studio in Gurgaon.
Made of recycled metal, the statue describes “symbolic figures for world-class Gurugram City, which is” futuristic but rooted in traditional wisdom “, said a GMDA official.
In September, the authority had asked residents to suggest names for statues and ‘Hanyanvi Tau’ adopted based on their input.
The statue has been installed with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund from Munich Süd-Chemie’s chemical company, which has a company office in Saket, in collaboration with IIAmgurgaon, a citizen initiative aimed at making Gurgaon Greener.
On the other hand, the motive of ‘I Love Gurugram’ has been arranged by GD Goenka University, given the popularity of similar installations in other cities such as Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Noida.
The motives have become trends on social media.
“We have placed these pieces in place a few days ago and decided to officially uncover them on Monday on Haryana Day,” said Subhash Chander Yadav, head of an additional executive officer, GMDA, GMDA.
Yadav said the authority was open to establishing other art installations if the company wants to use their CSR funds for such beauty work.
