2 booked for illegal teak tree logging

Coimbatore: The Forestry Department seizes a teak wooden truck in Kovaipur here on Monday night.
A forest officer, who did not want to be named, said David Solomon, from Kovaipur, has cut 17 teak trees that he has planted on his land without getting permission from the Ministry of Forestry.
“When the environmental activist K Syed knew that the wood was transported to Trichy Road from Kovaipur in a truck, he reminded us.” The officer said Solomon did not know that he had to get permission from the Ministry of Forestry to produce teak trees on his land and transport him.
“We have registered a case against him and truck driver Karuppusamy under section 35 of the wood transportation rules from Tamil Nadu Forest Act, 1882,” he said.
He said teak was a timber scheduled and the growing people had to get permission for ax and transport it.
