Chennai: Two students from Chennai were ranked 20th in Jee (continued) whose results were stated on Friday, while more than 30 students from Tamil Nadu secured the top 1,000 rating.
While Anand Narasimhan (All-India 17), who also topped the country, said he did not decide on the IIT he wanted to join, Ashwin Abraham (All-India 18) was interested in choosing computer science or IIT Bombay.
Anand, who secured 320 of 360, said he was sure to get a high score as he had done well in mathematics.
Many find a long and tough math part.
Anand, who has prepared for the past two years, said, “I want to learn computer science.
But, I haven’t decided about IIT.” Practicing a paper last year, the material provided by training institutions and his books recommended by the teacher has helped, he said.
“The preparation of online mode is challenging, but I have more time because there is no trip,” Anand said, who was also interested in coding, motorsports and cricket.
Ashwin Abraham, who also scored 320 of the 360 marks, said, “I practice a lot of artificial tests and my teachers help me overcome online mode and to get high grades.” Playing cricket with friends and family members helped him overcome the pandemic, he said, added that he was preparing for about 10 hours a day for the exam.
R Gokulakrishnan and Shankar Bajee, also from Chennai, are ranked 140 and 152, while Harshitha Muthavarapu, who topped TN among girls, rank 449 and can choose computer science in IIT Bombay or IIT Madras.
“There is a big difference in the mark and ranking in the top rank 1,000 this year compared to 2020,” said B Pavan Kumar, Deputy Director of Fiitjee, Chennai.
“Four months of extra students obtained after the exam was postponed because the second Covid-19 wave helped them prepare properly.” Shilpa Day, Chennai General Manager Area, Narayana School, said TN students did it well.
