Two police officers Chicago were shot and injured on Monday morning when trying to break the crowd after the fourth meeting of July, the authorities said.
Shooting around 1:45 on the west side of the city occurred less than an hour after the shooting of Drive-by in Washington Park on the south side of the city made two dead and four others injured.
Between Friday night and Monday morning, 12 people had been shot fatally in Chicago and at least 40 more gunshot wounds, according to statistics department.
Monday is considered part of a long holiday weekend, so final statistics will not be available until Tuesday.
At the same time, with the shooting that hurt the officers, the department so far this year has seen 33 officers both shot or shot compared to 22 during the same period last year.
One of the officers who was injured on Monday morning was hit at the foot and the others were beaten in the thigh, police said.
They were taken to the hospital and their injury did not threaten the soul, police said.
A statement from the police said they had responded to several large groups in the city, producing a lot of arrest.
“There are many big crowd meetings tonight, many celebration fireworks that take place, somewhat spontaneous,” said David Brown police supervisor.
“They spread the crowd when they heard a shot and felt pain.” It was not immediately known whether the officer was targeted or if they were shocked by random shots.
Chicago has seen a number of mass shootings in recent weeks, triggering wider concerns about the surge in US weapons.
Statistics released last week by police Chicago showed fewer murders but more shootings in this city this year than the same period last year.
In Washington Park Shooting, police said in a statement that the two men died.
A 12-year-old girl was in a critical condition, a 13-year-old boy was in a stable condition and a woman was in good condition, police said.
Another woman was treated at the scene because of two grazing wounds.
No one was immediately detained in the shooting.
