Alibaug: Two children allegedly drowned on the Patalganga River in Raigad Maharashtra in heavy rain, and the body of one of the victims had recovered, an official said on Tuesday.
According to the citizenship authorities, Nilambha Shrikant Hanchalikar (7) and his three-year-old brother, Babu drowned on the Patalgina River in Krantinagar in Khopoli on Monday night.
The search was made, after the girl’s body recovered about 8 km from Khopoli, while the boy was still missing, the official said.
Meanwhile, several regions in the district were flooded due to heavy rains on Monday.
The water level rises in Amba, Savitri, Kundalika and the Balganga River.
In Taluka, Tambadshet, Durset, Jeete, among the villages witnessed flooding, because 100 people were evacuated to safer places, while 150 people were evacuated at Panvel Taluka.
Landslides were witnessed at Sukeli Khind on the Mumbai-Goa route and in Jumapatti near Matheran.
Traffic on both routes was hit, because the work was ongoing to clean the rubble.
In accordance with official data, until Tuesday morning, Matheran has recorded the highest rainfall at 255.70 mm, while Murud recorded the lowest at 37 mm.
In the last 24 hours, the district has recorded 2,082 mm rainfall.
