Wilton Manors: Two children were killed and four more children were hospitalized with injuries when a car plowed there and escaped from the scene in South Florida on Monday, the authorities said.
The Broward County Sheriff said in the news release that it was investigating what had happened outside the apartment building in Wilton Manors, Florida, along with police Wilton Manors and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.
The Sheriff office does not immediately provide age for one child.
Steven Gollan, a head of the Battalion with the Feature Department Fire Lauderdale, told a press conference on Monday night that children who were hospitalized were “seriously injured.” “This event is a terrible event at any time of the year, especially after the holidays,” Gollan said.
The Wilton Manor Police Department Tweeted that the family reunification center was established at the City Hall Emergency Operations Center.
Wilton Manors is located right outside the Lauderdale fort.
The car drove on the sidewalk to get around the bus before hitting the children, said Shaunta Adams, who had just been expelled from his apartment.
“When I looked up, I saw him walking around the bus and I saw it crashing into the damn kids,” Adams told South Florida Sun Sentinel.
“I jumped out of my car, my car was still running, I ran and saw the first girl on the ground.
I knew she was dead.
I went to the second child and I saw her dead.” Wallene Johnson, who lived across the street, came out when he heard shouting and saw two bodies in the parking lot and another child lay on the ground on the road.
“How can you sleep?” He told Sun Sentinel.
“And they are babies.
They will not return to school.”
