2 female journalists at Tripura Beat Detained in Assam

Agartala: Two young women who claimed to be a journalist who were detained in Karimanj Selatan Regency on the way to Guwahati on Sunday after Tripura police slapped notice both for “criminal conspiracy” and “promoting hostility with religious reasons”.
Duo, one from Odisha’s Jharsuguda and other residents who are residents of Rohini in West Delhi, cannot produce an identity card that shows their affiliates to bona fide media organizations, Tripura police said after taking female custody of their associates.
Sammriddhi K Hakitia (21) and Jha Swarna (24), who lives in a hotel in Dharmanagar Dharmanagar North Tripura North, has been asked to record their statements on Agartala in connection with the case filed at the Kakraban Police Station in Gomati District below the 153A section ( Promoting religious hostility) and 120 (b) (party to a criminal conspiracy) under the IPC.
Quoting hotel records, the police said the two women called their work as “students” while checking and mentioning “work” as the destination of their visit.
“This triggered suspicion and we began an investigation after registering a new case under various IPC parts,” said an official.
The women, who traveled by taxi, allegedly took a detour from Kumarghat on Sunday to enter South Assam instead of continuing to Agartala.
They crossed the border between countries in Churaibari to avoid detection, police said.
