Udhagamandalam: Forest officials have arrested two people to carry out illegal Jeep safari in the reserve forest area in Singara Forest Range on Saturday night and fined four tourists, who had used the safari, each Rs 5,000.
The official source said the forestry staff with the reserve of Mudumalai Tiger (MTR) -Bawuffer was at night patrolling, when they found a jeep carrying four tourists from Coimbatore at Forest backup on Saturday night.
According to Arun Kumar, the Forest Officer, Jeep Driver Arjun 21, a resident of Moar Village, and Jeep Jeep owner Salam, 35, a resident of Masinagudi, was arrested for illegal Jeep Safari.
Both are produced before Judge Judicial Gudalur and returned in court detention.
“The jeep used for illegal safari is confiscated and produced in the presence of the Magistrate Court,” the officer said.
The four tourists involved in illegal safari are identified as Atheesh, 23, Manij, 23, Pechiappan, 23 and Sri Subhash, 21, all Coimbatore residents.
“They are left with a fine of each RS 5,000.
We have registered a case under the 1972 Wildlife Law and further investigation,” said the forest range officer.
