2 held at TN for smuggling liquor out of K’taka

ERODE: The Sathyamangalam authorities in Erode district of Tamil Nadu detained two men in Tuesday for smuggling liquor from Karnataka. The authorities captured 104 bottles of spirits and 2 bikes from the duo, recognized as C Prashanth, 26, of Kalayam village nearby Kottayur along with his buddy Kuppusamy, 22, of Sujilkarai village. The authorities were checking vehicles around the Sujilkarai-Selumi Thotty cross street in the wee hours of Tuesday. They intercepted two bikes coming from Karnataka. “There were 32 small carton boxes on each bicycle,” a police officer said. They discovered 180ml liquor bottles from the boxes. Inquiries using the duo revealed they were smuggling spirits from Karnataka. “They had been to sell the spirits for an exorbitant cost as liquor stores are shut in Tamil Nadu because of lockdown,” the police officer included. The duo are remanded in judicial custody.
