Dharmapuri: Two men were arrested near Thoppur on the Bengaluru-Salem National Highway on Wednesday night while smuggling tobacco products forbidden from Rs 23 Lakh to Kerala from Karnataka.
The Thoppur police identified the accused of PK Rashith at 46 years and a 39-year-old ALI, both residents of Palacode.M Vinoth, deputy supervisor of the police, Division Dharmapuri, said the two were arrested with Gukta which was banned during vehicle checks.
“The Thoppur police stopped the truck that both of them traveled in the Vellakkal area in NH as part of the drive.
The truck driver told the team that they transported raw materials to make chicken feed.” The smell of something was suspicious, the officer said, the team examined the truck.
“They smuggled the gucta in 112 bags.
Thoppur police confiscated 3,600 kg of forbidden tobacco products from them.” The truck was then taken to the Thoppur police station.
Based on the defendant’s statement, the Thoppur police registered a case against them and arrested them.
