Mumbai: Mumbai Police Crime Branch has arrested two people with Ambergris or vomiting Pope worth Rs 5.91 Crore from the outskirts of Bhandup, an official said on Thursday.
Acting on the tip-off, the 7-branch of the crime unit official put down the trap and church chotto (39) and Yogesh Chavan (37), who came to sell ambergis on the Eastern Express highway on Wednesday night, an official said.
Police recovered 5.910 kg ambergris, worth Rs 5.91 Crore from the bag of one of the defendants, he said, adding that further investigation was underway.
Ambergis sales, which are used to make perfume, are prohibited by law, because sperm whales are endangered species protected by wildlife protection laws.
