Religious: The hunt for migration birds in Chilika continued as wildlife personnel on Sunday arrested two people for killing winged guests in two different places on the lake, the largest water poultry habitat in the country.
Rise with three species of birds confiscated from the duo, who allegedly killed them on Saturday night in Barapolia and Balipapur under Tangi Range of the Chilika Wildlife Division.
The defendant was identified as Narahari Bhoi (40) Panasapada and Ashok Bhoi (24) from Balipapur, said source.
“Wildlife personnel also confiscated seven bundles from Narahari.
Alleged that the duo killed the birds through this snare,” said Choodarani Murmu, Range Officer, Tangi Wildlife Range.

Wildlife personnel detected both cases on the same day after patrolling inside and outside the lake was intensified to prevent bird hunting in the new year.

So far, wildlife officials have registered eight cases of bird hunting, catching six hunters and confiscating 65 bird carcasses in the current season.
Mishra, assistant forest conservator, the Wildlife Chilika division, said: “Patrol is intensified inside and outside the lake on New Year’s Eve.
The police also conducted patrols.
Twenty anti-perbu camps have been arranged on the lake.”
