Chennai: Cyber Cyber wings on Friday arrested two Nigerians based in Delhi to deceive a Chennai woman from Rs4.40 lakh after one of those who posed as a doctor from the Netherlands proposed to him in seeing the matrimonial profile.
A team that traces Paulinus Chikeluo, 31, and Cletus Ikechukwu, 23, to Uttam Nagar in Delhi takes them to the city.
Police confiscated cellphones, laptops and RS4.3 lakh cash from them.
In early May, a police officer said the residents postponed his profile on the Matrimonial site when a man who used the Dutch-based cellphone number gave his name as Dr.
Mohammad Salim and said he was looking for a bride from Chennai.
They began to chat and the man said he sent him a special gift.
He then received a call from a Mumbai woman who asked him to transfer RS28,000 as the cost of ‘marriage registration’ to a particular bank account.
He obeyed the request.
A few days later, he received a call from a man who said that the prize package aimed at him had a bundle of the euro currency in it and demanded RS77,000 as well.
After he paid, another call was looking for RS1 Lakh to turn the euro to the Indian Rupee and he was mandatory.
But when the caller again demanded RS95,000 to increase a bank account, he refused to pay.
Immediately, another man who claimed to be a ‘bride’ brother said that the latter would end his life if he refused to pay the number and receive the parcel.
The woman transferred RS95,000 to the account in two installments.
Then, the ‘groom’ itself called him to demand RS20,000 as a ‘delay fee’ and another RS50,000 as a special cost.
He promised his gold jewelry to mobilize funds.
In July, the groom said he had landed at Delhi airport and was detained because he did not have someone from an Indian card (PIO).
When he demanded the other RS1.35 lakh to pay for the card, he approached the police.
