New Delhi: Two men riding a motorcycle allegedly opened fire outside the house of a 48-year-old man in an effort to extort money in Delhi southwest on Tuesday morning, police said.
One of the men, which was identified as 29-year-old Vishal, had been arrested and tried to arrest his colleagues, a police officer said.
The police control room received a call about shooting in the village of Jharera Delhi southwest around 7am, they said.
A police team visited the family and met the 48-year-old subhash and his wife Babita.
He told them that about 15 days ago, someone, who identified himself as Vishal aka Makkan, along with two other people visited their homes with his absence and made his wife talk to a man, named Lallu Bhai aka Jamuna Prasad, by telephone.
Subhash accused Jamuna Prasad asked his wife Babita to pay for protection money and threaten it with terrible consequences if they failed to do it.
On Tuesday, Jamuna Prasad and Vishal arrived on a motorcycle, firing two rounds in the complainant house and escaped, police officer said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Ingit Pratap Singh said that Vishal defendants had been arrested and the crime scene had been examined by the Forensic Science Laboratory and Branch of the District Crime.
The case has been listed below section 387 (placing people in fear of death or sadly hurt, to make extortion) and 336 (act to endanger the life or personal safety of others) and 34 (actions carried out by several people more general intention) from the punishment code India and the relevant parts of the ARM acted, the officer said.
The police said that Subhash moved in selling liquor.
