Tokyo: Two athletes have become the first to test the positive Coronavirus in the Tokyo Olympic Village, officials said on Sundays, just a few days before the open-delayed pandemic match.
Cases will increase concerns over the Olympics, which faces conflict in Japan because their fear will bring new cases to a country that has struggled in a surge in infection.
Calculate new cases every day reveal two positive tested athletes in the village and one elsewhere.
They came a day after an unknown person, who was not a competitor, became the first case in the village.
Olympic village, apartment complex and dining room, will accommodate 6,700 athletes and officials at its peak when 2020 matches, was delayed last year for a pandemic, finally going on.
The Tokyo Olympics, most of which will be held behind closed doors to prevent infection, unpopular in Japan where polls consistently show a lack of support.
On Saturday, the President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach appealed the Japanese fans to be behind the game, said he was “very aware of skepticism” around the event.
