Kolkata: The day after two professors who served and retirees the University of Calcutta lost their hard income in phishing fraud, it was the turn of two professors from Rabindra Bharati University to lower similar fraud in the last 48 hours.
According to the RBB source, fraud targets a salary account from two professors using identical modus operandi.
The fraudsters, claimed sources, tried to cheat other professors too, but they were on guard.
“Fortunately, we can limit their losses with two people.
Trade unions have demanded an independent investigation into the incident stating that because the names of senior administrative officers were used, Rbu could not remain a mute audience,” said a source at the University.
The Bengali Department of Professor Deblina Seth and the Visual Art Department Professor Pala Sengupta lost Rs 5 Lakh and Rs 3.5 Lakh, respectively.
The fraudsters used the name of the Senior Rbu official and asked Seth and Sengupta to update their salary account.
The defendant used the name of the bank employee who handled their account and was asked to click on the link.
The victims have submitted a complaint with the Detective Department of Lalbazar.
