Kathmandu: Two television channels owned by Yoga Teacher Ramdev in Nepal have aroused controversy after they are operated without registration.
During the function on Friday, Sher Bahadur Deuba launched two channels – Aastha Nepal TV and Patanjali Nepal TV – before Ramdev, Acharaya Balekrishna and the main leader of other major participation.
“Foreign investment in the media sector is prohibited in accordance with Nepalese law.
We have not received the application to register these two television channels,” said Gogon Bahadur Hamal, Director General, Information and Broadcasting Department, said.
“We have formed an investigation team to study television channel registration.
If they have started broadcasting without prior approval, we will take action.” It is said that the Patanjali multi-national company has invested in two channels where Ramdev and Acharaya Balekrishna are the main promoters.
In accordance with Nepalese law, foreign investment is not allowed in the media sector and film.
But if there are foreign television channels need to operate from Nepal, one must meet all the legal and other procedures needed.
During the function, the Prime Minister Deuba has assured that he will provide land for Patanjali for medical purposes.
The two channels are part of the latest Patanjali Group business.
