Srinagar: Two terrorists were killed by security force personnel at a meeting in Hyderpora, a locality on Jalan Srinagar Airport, in a meeting that was still at the time of the press on Monday, police said.
The owner of a house where militants hid, who was injured in a shootout, died later on his wounds, police said.
IGP (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar said that according to their source, and digital evidence, the homeowner had “worked as a militant colleague”.
The search for the remaining militants is still there, he said.
“#SrinagarCeCounterupdate: 01 Unknown #militant killed.
#Trigo continues.
Further details must follow,” Kashmir Zone police have tweeted.
Moments later, they added: “01 more unknown (militant) was killed (total 2).
The operation continued.
Further details must follow (sic).” Police said the meeting between security forces and terrorists in the Hyderpora area of Srinagar began around 6:15 a.m.
On Sunday night, terrorists had hurt Gulzar Ahmad’s police when they attacked a police party in Nawa Lizard, in Central Srinagar, and then escaped.
The intelligence source said there were two dozen terrorists active in Srinagar, including several foreign terrorists.
Security officials have published advisers to protected people asking them to limit their movements given the threat of terrorists in various regions, said sources.
Terrorists have targeted civilians since October this year.
A dozen civilians, including some non-Kashmir and some non-Muslims, have been killed until last week.
Security agents have so far failed to damage terrorist bed cells, according to intelligence sources.
