Bhubaneswar: The Judicial Sub-Division (SDJM) Magistrat Court (SDJM) in Khurda on Tuesday sentenced two people to undergo six hard prisons to smuggle leopard skin in April last year, the Special Task Force (STF) from the state crime branch said in a state Statement on Wednesday.
The convicts were identified as Sudhira Behera and Subash Chandra Behera, who were arrested by STF from the Bolagada region in April.
This is the case of the first wildlife involving STF which has ended with confidence.
“We began investigating wildlife crimes in 2018.
A number of racquets were damaged.
The court in this particular case has ended with confidence,” said a senior STF officer.
STF has seized at least 25 Leopard Skins, 13 Gading Elephants, 7 deer skin, saved 9 Pangolins and confiscated the scale of Pangolin 16 kg since 2020 until now.
