Chennai: Zona Royapuram and Teynampet of Greater Chennai Corporation have got more than 20% of the vaccine managed in the city.
While Teynampet has the highest population among 15 zones, Royapuram has a bag with a very high population density.
Of the 24.82 lakh vaccines given until Monday night, 2.8 lakh was given in Teynampet and 2.8 lakh at Royapuram, the two zones together unite around 23% of total data, company data.
Anna Nagar came third with a 2.6 lakh dose given, while Kodambakkam was fourth with a dose of 2.5 lakh.
Incidentally, the ward in Royapuram and the Teynampet Zone was part of the constituency of Chepauk-Tiruvallikeni represented in the State Assembly by Udhayanidhi Stalin, Minister of Chief M K Stalin.
Udhayanidhi came to high praise from the Minister of Medical Welfare and the Subramanian family on Monday.
“Among all 234 elections in the state, Chepauk-Tiruvallikeni has recorded the highest number of vaccinations.
A total of 90,000 people have been given shots.
Udhayanidhi has worked very hard in convincing the public to take Jab,” he said.
The Mylapore D Velu legislator told Ti that all MLA in the city had worked in close coordination with Greater Chennai Corporation.
When and when the Civic body received a stock vaccine, local officials consulted with the concerned MLA to identify places where vaccination camps could be made.
“Our party workers on the ground giving feedback about which fields need to focus.
For example, if the GCC has allocated 1,000 doses for the MYLAPORE constituency, we suggest three locations where the camp can be done.

The Velu said that they consciously targeted slum as far as vaccination drive.

A corporate official said that doubt about getting vaccinations gradually decreased among people, especially among the younger ones.
The focus of the drive to provide a second dose of Covaxin is also based on the feedback from the ground, the official said.
Of less than 2,000 people get their second dose every day, corporations can reach around 6,600 people in one day last week, he said.
