Karachi: At least 20 Indian fishermen have been released from prisons in Karachi on the settlement of their sentences and will be repatriated through the Attari-Wagah border, reporting local media.
Many fishermen who were released from Landhi District Jail, Malir, Karachi were arrested about four years ago and sentenced to prison, reported Tama TV.
They were released after the same order was issued by the Sindh House Department.
The authorities in India have confirmed the citizenship of the fishermen, reported the newspaper quoting prison supervisors.
Indian fishermen are scheduled to go to Lahore and after that will be taken to the Wagi border where they will be handed over to Indian authorities.
Officials at Landhi Jail said that 588 Indian prisoners were still locked in prisons which were mostly fishermen.
India and Pakistan arrested fishermen with each other on charges of violations of maritime borders, reported the newspaper.
Meanwhile, India summoned a senior diplomat from the Pakistani High Commission on November 8 and submitted a strong protest of shot incidents that had not been established in Indian fishermen by Pakistan, said the source.
They said that senior diplomats from the Pakistani High Commission were called by the External Ministry.
The Pakistani Agency fired the Indian fishing boat ‘Jalpari’ on November 6, 2021, resulting in the death of an Indian fisherman and a serious injury to other fishermen.
Earlier this month, the Indian government has released 10 Fishermen Pakistan, which was arrested illegally crossed into the Indian region.
Border Security Force (BSF) Jawan handed over fishermen to Rangers Pakistan at the Attari-Wagah border.
