Lucknow: One of every three students under the secondary school level in this country consumes tobacco in several forms, claims the global tobacco survey released on a function organized by the World Health Organization on Monday.
Looking for a safe place, 37.4% of students smoke in their own home while 19.8% did it at a friend’s place, the report said the pattern of tobacco consumption.
This means that a friend’s house is an angle of smoking for almost 20% of teenagers in the state.
“About 13.5% of respondents said they smoked in schools, 10.8% in public places and 8.9% in social events while 9.7% of students smoke in random places,” he said.
Global Report Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) concerning Tobacco Consumption Among students revealed that around 23% of students in Uttar Pradesh, including 22% of boys and 24% of women, use tobacco in several forms.
GYTS is a cross-sectional representative, a school-based survey of students in the age group 13 to 15 years.
It uses a global standard methodology with proportional probability with registration measures.
Survey questionnaires include tobacco use, cessation, cigarette smoke and other aspects of tobacco use.
