Lucknow: Going with a compensation rate, revealed by Uttar Pradesh, more than 2,000 employees of the state government, half of them, died after arresting Covid while on duty during the Pancrayat poll.
The selection was held in April-May.
The Government of Uttar Pradesh will provide RS 30 Lakh as compensation to the families of 2,020 each employee, who died during the duties of the poll, according to senior officials.
Previously, the state government stated that only 74 government employees, including three teachers, had died during polling tasks.
Uttar Pradesh Prathamik Shikshak Sangh has released a list of 1,621 elementary school teachers and other staff, claiming that they died after contracting Covid-19 while carrying out election assignments between April 15 and 5.

Under the previous rules, compensation can only be given if the employee dies on the task or during the trip to and from the place of duty, which is calculated in one day or a maximum of two, depending on how far the employees travel.
The upward cabinet in June approved financial assistance, including those who surrendered to Covid-19 in 30 days from the poll duty, a spokesman had said.
The cabinet also increased the number of relief from Rs 15 Lakh to Rs 30 Lakh.
