2,000 Trees Accessed Before High Court Intervention
The Ministry of Forestry has given ahead to logging and translocating trees in the suburbs for widening roads, according to officials.
A few weeks after the High Court received a re-assessment report delivered by the experts committee from Agricultural University Sciences, Bengaluru, Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd.
(KRDCL) now plans to continue widening work on the outskirts of the city.
“The 155-km road widening project was postponed for more than a year due to the distance of the tree.
After the court approved the GKVK report, we were looking for the approval of the Ministry of Forestry.
Two of the three DCFs (Deputy Forest Conservators) have given a green signal,” said a senior KRDCL official.

The committee has given the geographical tag of all trees marked for logging, retention in location and translocation.
“Even the place where the tree will also be translocated will also be marked by geographically according to the direction of the court,” the officer explained.
“We will continue construction activities within a few months.”
Direct logging of trees by KRDCL following the careful permit from the forest department has attracted a recent general anger.
The corporation initially proposed an 8,561 ax tree but the number of traces affected by the project was brought to 5,297.
Of these, the KRDCL has an ax of nearly 2,000 trees long before the high court intervention.
GKVK report
Of the ten works that have been proposed by KRDCL in connection with developing countries in the suburbs, only two GKVK reports related to two works in the public domain.
The Committee has approved the logging of 24 trees and transplants of 62 trees in the Nelamangala-Madhure stretch.
What can be noted is that KRDCL has been wearing as many as 977 trees before the high court order.
.
In the second GKVK report, in connection with the construction of the road from aneccant to Hoskote through Attibele, Sarjapura and Whitefield, the committee has approved axes of 629 trees and 335 trees translocation.
The number of trees will be affected in the eight remaining projects – according to the re-assessment of GKVK – unknown.
Meanwhile, some citizens have the view that KRDCL did not follow the legal process while taking a project that affected a large number of trees.
Rajani Santhosh, a resident of Jayanagar, said KRDCL, at least, should conduct a comprehensive environmental impact assessment study (EIA).
“KRDCL has not obtained the legislation environmental permit to build roads in places that are very sensitive from an ecological perspective,” he said.
