Thanjavur: The police team specifically won 200kg of marijuana, which was reportedly intended to smuggle to Sri Lanka, in Thanjavur on Wednesday.
The police arrested a man and restored the ambulance used to carry contraband goods.
The police identified the defendant as Marshal Terrance Raja, 34, native residents of Nagapattinam Regency.
Contracts are valued at Rs 1 Crore, the police source said.
Based on Tip-Off, Digs Thinjavur Range Pravesh Kumar ordered a special team to curb smuggling exercises.
The special team led by additional supervisors of the police, Thanjavur, Jayachandran consisted of Sub-Inspector of R Mahendran, special sub-inspector n Kandasamy, and police chief K Ilayaraja, K Vijay, and R Vijay.
During the vehicle check on Wednesday, the team intercepted a personal ambulance in Nagapattinam and questioned the driver of the King’s vehicle vehicle.
Based on the investigation, the team searched for vehicles and found five gunny bags filled with narcotics that were hidden in the vehicle.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the contraband goods were brought from Andhra Pradesh to smuggle to the island state through the port of Nagapattinam, the police said.
