2020 statistics: 30 suicide / day due to poverty, unemployment

Bengaluru: More than 10,600 people were killed by suicide in India in 2020 because they were unemployed, poor or due to bankruptcy and debt, marking an increase of 8% over 2019.
The latest government statistics showed at least one person, died by suicide of each person at the cause This was 2020.
While the number of suicides was due to bankruptcy or debt reduced from 5,908 in 2019 to 5,213 by 2020, death due to poverty and unemployment recorded an increase.
If a decrease in death by suicide because bankruptcy is 11%, an increase in deaths from poverty rose 69% to 1,901 by 2020 of 1.122 in 2019, while suicide because of a close (3,548 of 2,851).
Of the 10,622 deaths associated with this cause collectively by 2020, associated with bankruptcy and debt will reach almost half (49%), while the third of them (3,548) is due to unemployment.

Psychiatrist TOI spoke by saying good and non-leaf people were both influenced by financial uncertainty, especially if they had a family .

Suicide associated with this cause together contributed 7% of the total number of suicides – more than 1.5 lakh – reported in the country in the Pandemic year.
A relative, they contributed 8% of the 1.3 lakh suicide reported in 2019.
Data analysis since 2015 showed that a total of 45,406 people died of suicide because this collectively, with those related to bankruptcy accounting for almost 65% or 29,218.
, followed by unemployment (36% or 16,565 cases).
While ignorance and social stigma (about mental health problems) prevent people from seeking treatment, psychiatrists say that individuals, in this case, very depressed also found it financially cannot consult with experts.
Data shows that while there are some fluctuations in cases related to each of the causes individually, they have increased collectively every year after 2016.
In that year, total suicide for these reasons have dropped by 18% to 7,179.
From there, it jumped 22% in 2017, with 2% in 2018, 11% in 2019 and 8% in 2020, the year with the highest death in that period.
From suicide because of this cause by 2020, most deaths occurred in the age group 30-44 followed by those in the bracket 18-29.
The least death is among those who are under 18 years and over 60 years.
Those aged between 30 years and 44 years contributed nearly 40% of the suicide (4,218).
Furthermore, almost 70% or 7,415 from all suicides were reported in four southern countries N – Kar Nataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh – and Maharashtra.
When it comes to death related to bankruptcy, nearly nine of the 10 deaths reported in these countries, while it was 53% for poverty death and 50.5% for death due to unemployment.
