Ghaziabad: In 2020, when people limited themselves to the house because of a pandemic, the lifting of the vehicle came out at the prey in Ghaziabad.
The year of locking saw street crimes down far, but vehicle theft still remained high.
According to a report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), there were 1,248 vehicle theft in 2020.
Although the number was lower than the previous year – when the 2,675 vehicle was stolen – it was prominent when compared to other crimes, theft and robbery in 2020.
Some cases Reported during locking months.
Between January and June this year, a total of 977 vehicles, including two-wheeled, have been stolen in Ghaziabad, according to other surveys.
The majority of theft was reported from Kavi Nagar, where some thefts had occurred, Indirapuram and Sahibabad.
“One reason why Ghaziabad is a nest of vehicle theft is that the residents tend to park their cars in the open, making it more vulnerable,” said a police officer.
“In the community in Indirapuram, many cars can be seen along the road due to lack of parking lots,” he added.
A survey conducted by the Ghaziabad Development Authority has found that illegal parking along when Patthar Road consumes 450 car spaces at a certain time.
At Cisf Road, haphazard parking takes 128 cars.
Another reason for vehicle theft is the closeness of Ghaziabad with the Western Western and Western District district that is considered a hub for sale and buying stolen vehicle parts.
“In Meerut’s SOTI Ganj, stolen vehicles are dismantled in a matter of hours and parts for sale,” said an officer.
“It takes less than 45 minutes for the vehicle lifting to cross to Meerut from Ghaziabad.
The police reaction time to track stolen vehicles depends on how fast the theft is reported.
More often than not, the gap of time proved to be a prevention tracing the vehicle,” he added.
So, what did the police do to stop theft of vehicles? Suraj Rai, ASP (Meerut), claimed that in the past two months, not a single stolen vehicle was dismantled in Sotiganj.
“We do a regular search.
In July, we have carried out massive crackdown, where we have sealed more than 10 godowns.
Now, most famous people have left the place,” he added.
Police in Ghaziabad is a banking system in the integrated traffic management system to check vehicle theft.
But the project has been postponed several years.
“The police team also works with RWA.
They have asked Rwa to keep only one or two open gates at night.
Enter and out must be monitored by the guards.
We list the place where there is more theft.
Patrols will be done thus,” said Pawan Kumar, SSP Ghaziabad ..
