New York: US health officials said 2021 formed even more deadly than last year.
It’s too early to say it, because all mortality reports for November and December will not be in a few weeks.
But based on the information available, it seems that 2021 will exceed the number of deaths last year at least 15,000, said Robert Anderson, who oversees disease control centers and preventive death statistics.
Last year was the most deadly in US history, mostly due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The CDC report released Wednesday showed 2020 was actually worse than the agent previously reported.
This report presents the final calculation for last year around 3.384 million US deaths, around 25,000 more than the temporary number released earlier this year.
Such a leap between temporary and final numbers is common, but the difference of 2020 is higher than usual because of the lag in the death record of several countries that turn to the new electronic reporting system, Anderson said.
This week’s CDC also revised the estimated life expectancy for 2020.
The life expectancy at birth of the year was 77 years, a 1.8-year decline from 2019.
The agency had previously estimated a decline at 1.5 years.
Anderson said the possibility of the nation would see more than 3.4 million deaths in 2021.
Other experts say they think death for this year will end the same as in 2020, or higher.
“It’s very sad,” said Ali Mokdad, a mortality statistician at the University of Washington.
The big reason was Covid-19, which hit the US around March 2020 and became the cause of death number 3 countries, behind heart disease and cancer.
Last year, Covid-19 was the underlying cause in around 351,000 deaths.
This year, the number has reached 356,000, and the final calculation can reach 370,000, Anderson said.
Experts also think the number 2021 will be influenced by the expected epidemic of drug overdose – for the first time – beyond 100,000 deaths in one calendar year.
Increasing unusual annual deaths.
Annual count rose by almost 16,000 from 2018 to 2019 – before Covid-19 appeared.
But Coronavirus clearly has an impact.
The nation has the smallest population increase in history between July 2020 and July 2021, mainly due to Covid-19 death, said Kenneth Johnson, a new university Hampshire researcher.
Officials hope the Covid-19 vaccine will cut the number of deaths.
But vaccination is available gradually this year, with only 7 million which is fully vaccinated at the end of January and 63 million at the end of March.
Since then, many Americans choose not to be vaccinated.
CDC said 204 million Americans were entirely vaccinated – or around 65% of the US population aged 5 years and over and qualified for shots.
Indeed, it is a big part of why Covid-19 death can climb despite effective vaccine availability, Mokdad said.
The appearance of a new variant that transmits more from Coronavirus just makes a worse problem, he added.
