Kanpur: To check the spread and track the source of the Zika virus, 74 teams from the Ministry of Health in samples collected on Friday 204 people, including 29 pregnant women and 85 air force personnel from all 11,493 households during the ongoing survey in Pardevanpurwa and Pokharpurwa In Chokeri under the supervision of experts from Delhi and Lucknow.
The first patient of the Zika virus in the state was detected in the city after Pune Laboratory Saturday confirmed the infection in the 57-year-old command officer here.
“Today, we have covered almost 11,493 households and scans a total of 51,881 people.
A total of 204 samples were taken on Friday, 29 samples taken were pregnant women, besides 85 samples were air force personnel.
All 204 samples were taken by 74 teams from the department Health, has been sent to Kgmu Lucknow Lab for further testing for the Zika, Malaria and Dengue virus, “Information from GK Mishra, an additional director, medical well-being and family welfare, Kanpur.
Dr.
Mishra said, the Zika virus was transmitted to people, especially through the bite of the infected and this was the same aedes species that spread the same mosquito that spread the dengue and chikungunya virus.
“This is related to ensuring first how IAF personnel are infected with the Zika virus.
For this, until now, the sample of almost 260 IAF personnel has been taken for the Zika virus test,” Dr.
Mishra said further.
He added that the condition of the officer, whose sample was tested positive for the Zika virus and who had suffered a fever over the past few days, declared steady by the doctors who took care of him at the Air Force Hospital.
Blood samples were collected and sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune, after the emergence of mysterious symptoms in the officer.
