Chennai: Bulk Vaccination camps in all states held for the fifth Sunday saw around 22.5 lakh people vaccinated 32,000 locations.
It’s a little higher than the previous Saturday’s number 17.1Laxh.
Nearly half (11.02 lakh) vaccinated to get their second dose.
More than 25 lakh people are due for their second dose on Sunday.
J Radhakrishnan, Health Secretary, said infection has dropped in the district with better vaccination coverage, especially in the western region.
On Sundays, more doses are allocated to districts that have the highest dose population that qualifies.
So far, more than five crores (64% of the country population) people have at least one dose.
But the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR) have argued that at least 70% of the population need to be vaccinated to prevent the spread of infection even if the third wave began, said Minister of Health MA Subramanian.
At Chennai City, the Civic body has established two static and two mobile camps in each of 200 wards.
The latter is used to cover areas with floating populations and gated communities.
Compared to previous mass vaccination drives, said health authorities, the fewer advanced people themselves.
So health workers work extra to reach the target set by approaching people through local influencers.
Mild Shower in the afternoon also came as a spoiler, preventing people from coming out of their homes for vaccination.
In Madurai, Trichy and several other places, the local body continued to announce gifts to bring more people to vaccine centers.
Instead of carrying out mass vaccination on Sundays, the health official section strives for vaccination drives in adequate locations on periodic working days by targeting the population that is not worn and those who wait for the second dose.
