Chennai: New cases in Tamil Nadu continue to increase on Thursday, when the state added 1,693 cases compared to 1,658 on Wednesday and 1.591 on Tuesday.
At least 23 of the 38 districts in the country reported an increase in new cases on Thursday compared to their Wednesday counting.
“We were at the beginning of the second wave, but for almost two months we tried to encourage the number of new cases reported under the four-digit sign,” said Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan.
“With more relaxation, we see a new cluster and marginal increase in the level of prospective in several districts.
This has drastically slowed the drop rate,” he said.
At the top of the second wave on May 21, the state reported more than 36,000 cases, but a month later, on June 21, new cases dropped to around 7500 cases a day.
On July 21, around 1800 cases.
“The case has risen down at least 20 districts.
While Chennai and Coimbatore are the causes of concerns, districts in the Delta area have also reported an increase in the level of participants,” he said.
On Thursday, cases in Coimbatore fell from 224 to 206, but the district won a slot for the district with the highest number of cases on Thursday.
After Coimbatore, Chennai reported the highest number of new cases.
The district reported 202 new cases compared to 226 on Wednesday – the steepest decline in the last 24 hours.
Chengalpet (135), Erode (134), Tiruppur (110) and Thanjavur (108) each reported more than 100 cases.
Thanjavur reported the sharpest increase from 72 new cases on Wednesday to 108 on Thursday.
However, 15 districts reported less than 20 cases each of them reported cases in one digit.
With six cases each, the perambal and theni are at the bottom of the new list of cases.
25 Deaths took the cumulative toll road to 35.271.
Meanwhile, 2.2 lakh people took the vaccine on Thursday taking tally doses to 3.9 crores in government vaccination centers.
The number of vaccinations in private hospitals since May 1 touched 23.31 lakh.
