Kolkata: Kolkata police, as part of his steps to ensure women’s safety, will prepare some ‘hotline kiosks’ in the city, which will allow those who are depressed to immediately contact the control room in Lalbazar via a free video call, a senior officer said.
The kiosk, equipped with a computer-operated system, will operate 24 hours a day, police officer said.
One of the kiosks on Tuesday was inaugurated at Alipore near the City Zoological Park, one of the popular tourist attractions in Metropolis.
“The booth will have a computerized computers facility 24×7.
A woman in distress can take advantage of every time.
Each kiosk will be connected to the Lalbazar control room, which will then notify the local police station for fast action.
A woman does not need to visit the police station,” he said.
An officer will be posted at a kiosk to help complainants.
Each kiosk will be arranged at the cost of Rs 9 Lakh, a senior police officer said.
“One just need to press the button on the LCD screen in the kiosk and the call will be directed to the control room.
Formal complaints will be immediately submitted and text, with the details of the complaint will be sent to a female cellphone,” he added.
