Trichy: A total of 24 monkeys, six of them were found dead in a vacant land near Trichy-Chennai NH on Sunday morning.
Forest officers say the cause of death is being investigated.
According to officials, they got aware that the monkeys lay in vacant land and agricultural fields near the Forest Reserve in Nedungur Village in Trichy Regency.
A team of officials led by Ranger Forest Gopinath rushed to the place and found 24 monkeys die on land.
Everything is two years old.
Initial investigations show that death is not because of poisoning.
They may have died because they are weak, said Forest Ranger.
“The perpetrators may limit animals in small cages that make them die.
However, the actual reason for death will only be known after getting a postmortem report,” Gopinath said.
The special team has been formed to investigate incidents and arrest the perpetrators involved, officials said.
After doing postmortem, the carcass of all 24 animals was buried in the range of Nedungur Forest Reserves, said forest officials.
In a separate incident, forest officials confiscated five small ivory elephant pieces from two people.
Sincerely all carved to look like a tiger nail measuring 3cm long and 1.5cm wide.
Officials arrested Arupandi and Soundarjan from Devarayanery in Trichy in connection with the incident.
They have been submitted to higher officials, officials said.
