New Delhi: More than 245 wetlands in Delhi did not meet the parameters for dissolved oxygen and ammonia, according to a report by the Delhi pollution control committee.
Water quality reports have been distributed with 16 water agency institutions, which are preparing an action plan to improve wetland health.
The DPCC report is based on water samples collected from wetlands last year for basic surveys and new surveys will be carried out to compare readings.
According to the report, some leading wetlands failed to meet standard parameters.
The dissolved oxygen standard for wetlands is 4 mg / L or more, while the free ammonia level must be 1.2mg / l.
The report revealed that Lake BhalSwa could not meet the necessary criteria because the dissolved oxygen level was found in 2.1 mg / l.
Similarly, Hauz Typical Wetland (District Park) meets dissolved oxygen criteria but fails to free the level of ammonia.
It records ammonia 3.8 mg / l.
The report stated that there were 13 wetlands called Asola in the Southern District and this, eight failed to meet the required ammonia standards.
Delhi’s wetland authority has registered 1,040 wetlands and has allocated a unique identification number to them.
Of these, the action plan for conservation of wetlands has been prepared around 600 wetlands.
“We have shared water quality reports with all agents who maintain wetlands.
The plan of action is being carried out on how they will improve water quality.
Efforts will be taken to improve wetland health,” said a DPCC official.
The official added, “We were conducting another wetland survey to compare it with the findings of the initial survey to check whether there was an increase in water quality.
