Chennai: The government on Monday launched round clock centers in medical colleges and government hospitals throughout the state to increase the vaccination rate against Covid-19.
Inaugurating facilities at the Omandurar Government Hospital in Chennai, Minister of Health MA Subramanian called it the first attempt in this country to vaccinate the maximum population amid the third wave concern.
“It will benefit those who often travel for work reasons.
Flexible time will greatly help those who give a paralyzed reason of not having their work time for vaccination,” he said.
The first of these centers, was established in 55 places throughout the state, opened by Minister M K Stalin in the DMS complex in Chennai on Saturday.
In addition to 36 government medical college hospitals, district head office hospitals have also been integrated under special drives.
In Coimbatore, such centers have been opened at 10 places including Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) and ESI Hospital.
Opening the center in CMC, G S Sectean collector said 20.88 Doses of Lakh Covid had been given so far for people in Coimbatore.
These centers will further accelerate drive vaccination in the district.
A total of 126 people were vaccinated on the first day of CMCH from 350 doses available.
Dean Cmch A Nirmala said that preferences will be given to frontline workers, pregnant women and nursing mothers.
While the center was inaugurated at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Trichy, in Madurai, the Department of Rajaji Covid-19 vaccination center, which is currently located at Elango Corporation School, made functional.
This is one of the largest Covid-19 vaccination centers in the state and has also vaccinated the highest number of recipients in one center in the state.

A similar center was inaugurated at the Themi Government Hospital by collector M V Muridharan.
Speaking at the inauguration of the center, collectors say that 3,97,421 people have been vaccinated in non-district until now.
