Mumbai: One in four universities affiliated with Mumbai University function without principals, reveal RTI data.
Of the total 808 affiliated colleges, 81 had a director post.
From the rest 727, 178 operates without principals and for 23, the university has no record.
Many college headless colleges come from the Faculty of Engineering, Law and Management, according to RTI reports.
According to the university record obtained on December 28, 2021 by RTI activist Anil Galgali, KJ Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce, Ritambhara College, Vivekanand College of Law, Sies Institute of Technology, Advani College of Law, and Rizvi College are among the institutes who have Responsible school principal.
Sardar Patel Institute of Technology (Andheri), Burhani College (Byculla), NSS College of Education (Tardeo), N Dalmia Institute of Management Studies (Mira Road), and Dr Ambedkar College of Law (Wadala), among college for Don’t have a principal.

Galgali said it was a higher moral responsibility of the Ministry of Education and Technical to act against this college.
He questioned the ministry’s steps to approve new courses in universities that operate without principals.

A university official said that after the recent government resolution, most of the universities had begun to fill the principal posts.
While the culture assisted requires the NOC government for appointment, universities without help must get ads that invite approved applications from the university.
He said the process had begun in many colleges and vacancies tend to be immediately filled.
An official from the Ministry of Higher Education said Pandemics also postponed the appointment process in several assistance universities.

A government resolution was issued on November 12 which asked all post-head posts to be fulfilled at non-governmental assistance universities before the start of the academic session of 2022-23.
