AHMEDABAD: A significant fire broke out from the slums at Vejalpur on Tuesday afternoon, gutting 25 shanties and producing nearly 100 people displaced, said officials. No casualty has been reported. An officer of this Ahmedabad Fire & Emergency Services (AFES) stated that a call was received at 9.47am on Tuesday on a cylinder burst at one of their shanties. Seventeen cars of the fire brigade were discharged to douse the blaze. There were approximately 100 shanties from the slums. Following a cylinder burst in among their shanties, the flame spread to the others in a couple of minutes. Fire brigade officials and neighborhood residents stated that eight LPG tanks burst from the flame. The explosions were observed at the radius of 1km. Fire brigade staff took approximately two weeks to control the fires and oneand-a-half hours longer to clean the charred debris,” stated an AFES officer. He explained 3.40 lakh litres of water has been used to douse the flame. As police and fire brigade personnel reached the place, they removed approximately ten tanks to stop additional blasts, stated deputy commissioner of police, Zone-7, Premsukh Delu. “There has been a enormous reduction to people’s resources, however, no lives were lost, nor any harm reported from the flame,” explained Delu. An officer of this FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) attained the website of the flame at approximately 4pm to determine the specific cause. Individuals who lost their houses were forced to remain in a water pumping station in the region. These folks didn’t have bathrooms at their homes and had just power links. They had to fight to find water,” said a local resident.
