THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health minister Veena George has said that 26.2% of the total population in the state have been given the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine and 6.61% of the people have received the second dose.
She was speaking at the vaccination review meeting.
“Of the total 1,09,61,670 vaccination given in the state, 87,52,601 people took first dose and 22,09,069 took the second dose.
As per the 2011 census, 26.2% have taken the first dose and 6.61% the second dose,” said the health minister.
The highest number of vaccination has taken place in Thiruvananthapuram where 10,08,936 took first dose and 2,81,828 took the second dose.
So far the state has received 1,05,13,620 vaccines, of which 7,46,710 doses were Covishield and 1,37,580 were Covaxin.
The state had purchased 8,84,290 vaccines directly from the manufacturers.
The Centre has promised to send more vaccines in the coming week, said the minister.
At present, the state has a stock for varying of the vaccination for two more days.
But the government has decided to carry out the vaccination with the existing stock and wait for more consignment from the Centre.
The Centre has promised to send 38 lakh more vaccines to the state.
Now, the vaccination process is being carried out between the age group of 18 and 44 and also for the people above 45 years of age.
The government has decided to provide vaccination for all above the age group of 40 years without any priority categories.
Once the vaccines reach the state, the vaccination drive will be more effective, she added.
