Colombo: At least 26 people have been killed and more than 230,000 others have been affected in the last few days due to extreme weather conditions in Sri Lanka, the authorities said on Friday.
October and November usually the Northeast rainy season in Sri Lanka.
However, higher rainfall than is usually reported in most countries this year.
So far 26 people have died and more than 230,000 are affected by continuous rain.
At least six people were shocked by lightning, said the disaster management center.
According to the center, with slowing rain and flood water recede, the affected area slowly returns to normal.
The Sluice Reservoir gate which has been opened is gradually closed again.
However, the weather bureau said the rain would occur in several provinces in island countries.
The weather bureau said the low pressure area in Bengal southeast bay which was indirectly responsible for heavy rainfall in this country now moving towards South India.
